THE BLUE FAIRY DRESS

The Holy month Ramadan is here. We all are blessed to witness this Ramadan. So please utilize the benefits of this month to the maximum by increasing our Ibadah. May Allah accept all our worships and duaa. Please include me and my family in your valuable duaa…

Recently I had my third baby… Recent means Feb 3rd… Her name is Hamna Fathima. My eldest daughter Hana Fathima’s birthday falls on Feb 5th. I wished if Hamna came 2 days later, both my girls would’ve been sharing the same birth date 🙂 …but there’s nothing we could do about it… Allah plans everything for good.

Hana and my son Muhammed was born in India. I wanted to deliver Hamna here in Dubai. But as I said earlier, Allah plans everything and everything for good. At the last moment I had to change my plans and had to go to India for delivery. Since Hana was going to school and the final exams were soon to commence, I couldn’t take her with me to India. That departure from the airport was the most heart-breaking moment for me. That was in the 3rd week of January. Daily she used to call and cry. Even now when I think of that, tears jerk from my eyes.

Do you know why I shared this long story?…I will tell… Ever since I started sewing, Hana wore only dresses sewn by me for her birthdays. And her birthday falls on February. Me in India and she in Dubai. I decided to make a dress for her birthday and send it to her. Luckily one of our relatives was travelling to dubai at that time. So, within 2 days I bought the fabrics and whipped up a dress for my angel. And that is this Blue Fairy Dress. Hope you guys liked it.

FLOWER GIRL DRESS

  Hello Friends…

Howz everyone doin’? I don’t even remember when was my last visit in here. Well…I really regret the fact that I don’t get time for anything… Anything in the sense..EVERYTHING… Finally I decided today is the day for my re-entry. IT’S NOW OR NEVER 🙂

My Hana loves 2 types of dresses. One is maxi and the other one being twirly. So this time it’s a maxi dress. I just looove the floral fabric that I’ve used. This fabric had been lying in my stash for over a yer now. I wasn’t quite sure what to make with it. Recently when I was walking through a store I saw a dress in floral print and I immediately decided to do this.

Some of my friends were asking for the measurement. So, here I’ve done a rough draft of it. Well, I really don’t know how to explain the procedure accurately because I’m in no way an expert. But if you have any doubt, I’ll try to explain at my level best.

The actual chest measurement of my daughter is 22 inches. I took extra inches so that I could do an elastic casing at the back bodice. This will give a good fit.

Here in the bodice I’ve done an extra layer with length shortened. And it’s cut on the bias and did a rolled hem.

Please don’t ask me anything about the blazer. I just winged it and I’m not at all happy with the result. Although it look’s ok while worn, it’s not at all ok. It was my first time working with knits and I’ve never imagined it to be this tough. Well…I need to practice a lot  more with knits…

Hope to see you soon…

ANARKALI DRESS

Wow…I’m happy… I’m happy the way this dress has shaped up… I’ve been wishing to make this one for a long long time, but time and fear didn’t permit me to…. Finally I tried hard to conquer my fear and made use of every bit of time I got. Afterall ‘time’ n tide waits for none…

As I said earlier that my girl loves twirly dresses, I had to make this super twirly dress for her. The yoke portion is made out of a brocade type of fabric and the skirt portion is made of soft net fabric with satin lining. The skirt is basically a paneled skirt, which is easy to make. The fabric used for the border is a kind of silk material.

This dress was actually not that hard to make, but the portion that I thought would be the most easiest, turned out to be the toughest part. Arggh…the border, it took the life out of me. But somehow or the other I had to complete this dress. And after a lot of seam ripping and adjustments, this dress is finally done.

Now hana is eagerly waiting for an occasion to wear it. She is waiting to twirl.
